2. What data we collect
We collect the following data when you use Phoney Number:
- Account data: Your email address, collected when you sign up via Stripe checkout.
- Billing data: Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. We store your Stripe customer ID and subscription ID. We never see or store your full card number.
- Phone number data: The virtual number assigned to your account, your forwarding number (the mobile we forward calls to), and your account country.
- Call data: Inbound call records including caller number, call duration, and whether the call was forwarded or went to voicemail.
- Voicemail recordings: Audio recordings of voicemails left for your number, and transcriptions of those recordings.
- Greeting data: The greeting text you provide and your chosen AI voice preference.
- Usage data: Monthly minute usage for call forwarding and outbound calls.
3. How we use your data
We use your data solely to provide and improve the Phoney Number service:
- To provision and manage your virtual phone number
- To forward calls to your mobile number
- To deliver voicemail recordings and transcriptions to your email
- To send service emails (payment confirmations, payment failures, account alerts)
- To process your subscription payments via Stripe
- To detect and prevent fraud and abuse
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the service.
4. Data sharing
We share your data with the following third-party services solely to operate Phoney Number:
- Stripe — payment processing. Your billing data is governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy.
- Vonage / Twilio — telephone infrastructure. Call data passes through their networks to route calls to your number. Governed by their respective privacy policies.
- Amazon Web Services (Polly) — text-to-speech synthesis for your AI greeting. Your greeting text is sent to AWS Polly to generate audio. Governed by the AWS Privacy Policy.
We do not sell your data to any third party. We do not share your data with advertisers.
5. Call recordings and voicemails
Voicemail recordings are stored temporarily to allow delivery to your email. All voicemail recordings and transcriptions are automatically deleted after 90 days. You can request earlier deletion by contacting us.
Your forwarding number (the mobile number calls are forwarded to) is stored in our database and transmitted to Vonage/Twilio solely to route calls. It is never shared with callers or third parties beyond what is necessary to complete the call.
6. Data retention
- Account data: Retained for the duration of your subscription plus 90 days after cancellation.
- Call logs: Retained for 12 months then deleted.
- Voicemail recordings: Deleted after 90 days automatically.
- Billing records: Retained for 7 years as required by UK financial regulations.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right of access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
- Right to erasure — request deletion of your account and associated data
- Right to data portability — request your data in a portable format
- Right to object — object to processing of your data

8. Cookies
Phoney Number uses a single session cookie to keep you logged in while using the dashboard. This cookie contains no personally identifiable information and is deleted when you close your browser or log out. We do not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies.

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data including HTTPS encryption, secure database access controls, and restricted server access. However, no internet transmission is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email. Continued use of the service after notification constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
